We wanted to get a group up and running for the ladies in our community and revive the Cranmore and Doulting WI that sadly closed in 2006 after 60 years in operation. We held our inaugural meeting and “Champagne and Cupcake Launch” in January 2010.

Our desire is to create a dynamic, lively and innovative club for local women to meet up and have fun, share common interests and learn new things. We believe it’s really important to revive traditional skills from our elders that ay be lost, campaign on issues that matter to us and our community - as a WI group we can be effective in highlighting an issue or addressing change because the WI has a lot of clout as well as a well known and respected organisation.

We call ourselves Strawberry Line WI because historically this was the affectionate name given to the railway track that ran through Cranmore, transporting fresh strawberries from Somerset to Wiltshire. We love the name “Strawberry Line” as it means something to the local area. It’s fresh and feminine and of course reminiscent of strawberry jam!
